Type species — Trypanidius dimidiatus Thomson, 1860 (subsequent designation, Thomson, 1864: 28).

Diagnosis. Prothorax transverse, with postmedian lateral tubercles; elytra with centrobasal crest and carinae variable (centrobasal crest present and isolated or as part of the dorsal carina or somewhat indistinct); dorsal carina from absent to distinct), and apex with outer angle spiniform or distinctly projected. Number of species currently included: 15; in Mexico and Central America : 4.
