Macropes robustus Zheng & Zou, 1982 View in CoL
( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D)
Macropes robustus Zheng & Zou, 1982a , 25, 68–70; Hua, 2000, 190.
Macropes bambusiphilus Zheng & Zou, 1982b , 3, 117–118; Hua, 2000, 190. New synonymy Macropes slateri Zheng & Wang, 1987 , 6, 66–67. New synonymy
This is a robust species of the Macropes femoralis complex; the habitus is similar to M. uniformis , but larger (5.7 vs. 4.14); the pronotal pubescence is denser; the scutellar non-pruinose area is narrow, confined to the narrow mesal T-shape elevation. It may be separated from M. complanus sp. nov. and M. harringtonae by the characters mentioned in the diagnosis of the new species or as given in the key. Pygophore opening and paramere as shown in Zheng (1982a).
The abdomen of the holotype of M. bambusiphilus Zheng & Zou was missing. We examined the remnants of the holotype, found the pronotum of M. bambusiphilus a little more heavily built than M. robustus ; apart from this, there are no distinct difference between these two species.
The genital segments of the holotype of M. slateri Zheng & Wang were missing. The pronotum of the holotype of M. slateri is a little more slender than that of M. robustus . The holotype of M. bambusiphilus and M. slateri are of the same series of specimens, both collected from Mengla, Yunnan, China in September 20 to 25, 1979. When we examined the specimens of these three species, we found that there were transitional forms of pronotum. Here we treat both of M. bambusiphilus and M. slateri as junior synonymies of M. robustus .
