Macropes peculiaris View in CoL sp. nov.
( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 F; 3E, K, O, P)
Body elongate, slender. Head, pronotum and scutellum black, shining, polished, with apex of tylus, area across pronotal humeri dark reddish brown. Scutellum gray pruinose with the narrow median elevated ridge shining. Legs and antennal segments I to III testaceous with segment IV of antennae dark chocolate brown. Labium dark reddish-brown with distal half of segment IV black. Clavus dark brown except claval suture, anterior 1/2 of corium yellowish brown, distal 1/2 of corium dark brown, but becoming lighter along lateral margins; radial vein raised and shining on anterior 1/2; distal 2/3 to 1/2 of cubital vein and distal margin of corium dark brown; membrane shining, semi-translucent, ground color yellowish, veins slightly darker. Abdomen above and below black with lateral connexival margins reddish brown. Head, anterior and lateral margins of pronotum, and scutellum shallowly punctuate, more densely so across pronotal transverse impression. Callus shining, with transversely rugulose and two shallow foveae in the center.
Head slightly declivent, moderately convex across vertex, tylus reaching distal end of 1st antennal segment, eyes prominent, lateral head extensions at posterior margin of eyes nearly in contact with anterolateral pronotal angles, length head 0.50, width 0.79, interocular space 0.50. Pronotum relatively elongate, with anterior lobe approximately 3× length of posterior lobe, convex, transverse impression set far back of center of pronotum, pronotum widest at medial area; lateral margins from the medial area angled mesally and straight to anterior margin, posterior margin shallowly concave, length pronotum 1.96, maximum width 1.52, width across humeral angles 1.35. Scutellum with a broad T-shaped median elevation, the transverse elevation reaching lateral margin, only longitudinal median elevation on posterior 2/3 shining, length scutellum 0.61, width 0.60. Hemelytra with lateral corial margins slightly sinuate; brachypterous, membrane rather narrow, only attaining posterior margin of 4th abdominal tergum, leaving connexivum wellexposed, distance from apex clavus to apex corium 1.02, distance from apex corium to apex abdomen 2.90. Metathoracic scent gland auricle broad, short, apex slightly pointed posteriorly. Fore femora greatly incrassate, armed below with numerous stout sharp spines, no bifid spine present on distal 1/4, but the bases of 2 spines close to each other on distal 1/4; middle and hind femora mutic. Labium extending between fore coxae, length labial segments I 0.40, II 0.35, III 0.33, IV 0.40. Antennae segments II and III slightly clavate, length antennal segments I 0.18, II 0.42, III 0.48, IV 0.73. Total length 7.31. The pygophore opening, paramere, and aedeagus as shown in Fig. 3E View FIGURE 3 , K, O, P.
Diagnosis. The new species is similar to M. yoshimotoi and M. simoni of the Macropes spinimanus complex, but can be distinguished by the membrane being semi-translucent, yellowish, without any dark membranal macula. In addition, M. yoshimotoi is also different from the new species in having: anterolateral angles produced into upward-pointing tubercles, the metathoracic scent gland auricle is elongate, angled anteriorly, and the hind tibiae with a row of tubercles. M. simoni is different in having: the shape of the lateral margins of pronotum, the ratio of pronotal length to width (1.10: 1.31), the labium 1st segment nearly attaining the base of head, and the hind tibiae mutic. The new species can be separated from M. hoberlandti and M. maai by the characters given in the following key.
Material. Holotype: male, 75 kilometers area of Yuepian Road, Lushui (25.9° N, 98.8° E), Yunnan, China, 2300 m, 3. IV. 2002, Xiaohong Ou. GoogleMaps
Etymology. The specific name peculiaris is a Latin adjective, in reference to the pronotum being relatively elongated, and the shape of lateral margins is peculiar, too.
