Distribution: Transcaucasia to Turkey, Israel, and Jordan; S Europe from Portugal, C France to S Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Romania; Turkmenistan; Iran; Algeria; Morocco; Tunisia; various Mediterranean islands; perhaps Egypt.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Vulnerable.
Discussion: euryale species group. Revised by DeBlase (1972); also see Harrison and Bates (1991), Paz (1995), Zagorodnyuk (1999), Horácek et al. (2000), and Gaisler (2001 b). Does not include tuneti; see Cockrum (1976 b).
