Diammatophora scutata Gounelle, 1911: 97 View in CoL , 1 fig.

Dihammaphora scutata View in CoL ; Aurivillius, 1912: 430 (catalogue); Monné, 2005: 522 (catalogue); Monné and Bezark, 2008: 138 (checklist).

Redescription

Male syntype. Integument almost entirely black. Antennal segments 3–11 and legs brown, peduncles of femora light-brown. Prothorax reddish with a black basal band, sinuous at middle. Elytra brownish at sides and base behind scutellum. Head densely rugose-punctate. Frons and clypeus clothed by silky, whitish pubescence obscuring integument. Margin of lower eye lobes with whitish pubescence.

Antennae exceeding middle of elytra by one segment; all segments sparsely pubescent. Segments 3, 4 similar sized, little shorter than 5, 6 subequal in length; 3–5 subcylindrical, 6 gradually expanded to apex; 7–10 gradually becoming shorter than 6, somewhat swollen; 11 oval, as long as 3.

Prothorax somewhat rounded at sides, slightly narrowed behind middle and more attenuate apically. Black basal band of pronotum more evidently reticulate, sparsely pubescent with some fine, deep punctures; latero-basal gibbosities obsolete.

Elytra subparallel at sides. Disk subdepressed; dorsal costa more evident at basal half, then vanishing apically. Punctuation moderately coarse, deep; punctures subseriate, more or less arranged in four rows at median third, separated by about one diameter, and irregularly distributed at base and apical third; a single row of punctures between dorsal and lateral costae, except at apical third with two rows, and at base, irregularly distributed. Whitish pubescence very short, moderately denser apically. Margins weakly asperate, the asperities proximate. Elytral apices rounded-truncate.

Peduncles of femora sulcate. Metafemora surpassing elytral apices by the apex of club. First segment of metatarsi 1.3 times as long as the following two combined.

Female syntype. Antennae reaching middle of elytra; segments 7–9 shorter, more swollen and more projected at apex. Prothorax more attenuate from middle to base and apex. Elytra with punctuation and pubescence denser.

Measurements (mm) syntype male. Total length, 5.8; prothorax length, 1.4; maximum width of prothorax, 0.9; elytral length, 4.0; humeral width, 1.2.

Type material

Syntypes male and female (MNHN), from Brazil, Goiás: Jataí, examined. The male has the following labels: (1) Brésil; Et. de Goyaz; Jathay; (2) Dihammatophora scutata Goun. , and the female has the labels: (1) Brésil; Et. de Goyaz; Jathay; Pujol, 12-97, 1- 98; 2) Diammatophora scutata o?.

Remarks

Dihammaphora scutata View in CoL differentiates from the other species by the combination of the following characters: prothorax reddish with a black band at base; elytra with punctuation not seriate, clothed with short, sparse, whitish pubescence, and dorsal costae more conspicuous at apical half; antennae exceeding the middle of elytra with segments subcylindrical, slightly expanded at apex, segments 7–10 shorter than 6 and decreasing in length. Bezark (2008) figured a specimen as “ holotype ”. Actually, it is a syntype since Gounelle (1911) mentioned two examples in the original description.
