Type species: Picacharops brevithorax Gauld, 1984 View in CoL (by monotypy and original designation).
Diagnosis. Small species; body short and stout; clypeus weakly convex; mandible with a strong lamella and upper tooth as long as lower tooth or slightly longer; eye weakly indented opposite antennal socket; occipital carina reaching hypostomal carina at base of mandible; propodeum abruptly declivous; propodeal area superomedia confluent with area petiolaris, slightly concave; hind tarsal segments without row of ventral setae medially; fore wing with 1cu-a vein strongly oblique, making an angle of 55° with AA vein; areolet present, small rhombic shape, with a moderate stalk; hind wing with distal abscissa of CU vestigial, CU&cu-a not intercepted; first metasomal segment with glymma absent; metasoma rather short, tergite 3 with laterotergite separated by a crease; ovipositor very short and its sheath widened, straight, with a distinct dorsal subapical notch, not projecting beyond apex of metasoma ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Remarks. Prior to this study, the genus Picacharops was only known from the Australasian realm. There are few reports since the original description of this genus (Gupta 1984; Yu & Horstmann 1997).
