[ Cephenemya stimulatrix ] Rondani, 1857: 23.
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 23) moved Oestrus stimulator Clark, 1815 to the genus Cephenemya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 and changed the spelling of the species epithet to Cephenemya stimulatrix to agree with the gender of the generic name. However, since stimulator is a noun it does not change in gender with the generic name (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 34.2.1). Bezzi & Stein (1907: 556) and Soós & Minář (1986: 241) considered Cephenemyia stimulatrix Rondani, 1857 as a junior synonym of Cephenemyia stimulator ( Clark, 1815) , but this is incorrect. Rondani was merely making a spelling change and not proposing a new species. O’Hara et. al. (2011: 214) incorrectly considered the name Cephenemyia stimulatrix as an available Rondani name. The genus name “ Cephenemya ” is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Cephenemyia Latreille, 1818 or subsequent usage of Cephenemya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 48).
