Melieria etrusca Rondani, 1869 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869a: 17 (key), 18 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Etruria … in ditione florentina … in agro Lucensi [ Etruria (= Tuscany) … Florentine territory … Lucca’s territory ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (left wing glued to a cardboard stage pinned below specimen, abdomen and terminalia on a slide) ( MZUF: Box 30): Melieria Desv. / etrusca Rnd., Etrur. [= Etruria (Tuscany) ], Giarretta [word not interpreted] / 1599 / Lectotypus Melieria etrusca Rnd. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1978 / Melieria omissa Meig. , ♂, det. Á. Soós, 1978.
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (head detached, glued to label bearing the identification number, thorax partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 30): Melieria Desv. / etrusca Rnd., Etrur. [= Etruria (Tuscany) ], Sicil. / 1599 / Paralectotypus Melieria parmensis Rnd. , ♀, desig. Á. Soós, 1978 / Melieria omissa Meig. , ♀, det. Á. Soós, 1978.
SLIDE: Genitalia and abdomen on slide n° 20 (Box Diptera Rondani 3): Melieria etrusca Lectotypus des. Soós, n. 1599.
CURRENT STATUS: Soós (1984c) did not list this nominal species; junior synonym of Melieria omissa ( Meigen, 1826) ( Soós 1983: 258, Kameneva 2008: 431).
REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 18) described Melieria etrusca without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, received from F.M. Piccioli and A.H. Haliday. Soós (1983: 258) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♀). The locality Sicil. [= Sicily] on the paralectotype label probably referred to a subsequent addition.
