TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Sicilia … in Insula Melita [Sicily ( Italy) … Malta Island]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (glued to a cardboard) ( MZUF: Box 30): Herina Desv. / ghilianii Rndn. , ♂, Melita / 1608 / Lectotypus Melita ghilianii Rond. , ♂, design. Á. Soós, 1978 .

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 1 ♂ ( MZUF: Box 30): Herina Desv. / ghilianii Rndn. , ♂, Melita / 1608 / Paralectotypus Melita ghilianii Rond. , ♂, design. Á. CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Soós 1984c: 55, Rivosecchi 1992b: 308, Belcari et al. 1995b: 6, Kameneva, 2007: 411).

REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 24) described Herina ghilianii without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from V. Ghiliani and A. Schembri. Soós (1982a: 136) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 1 ♀).
