ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865c: 202 (key), 204 (description as brevicanda).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino [ Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing left mid- and hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 11): Platychyra Rnd. / brevicauda Rnd. / 527.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Fausta nemorum ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 296) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 204) described Platychyra brevicauda from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. He spelled the species as “ brevicauda ” in his key (p. 202) but as “ brevicanda ” in his description (p. 204). Acting as First Revisers (according to I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 24.2.3), we here select “ brevicanda ” as an incorrect original spelling. We found one syntype in this study. The MZUF also contains a (non-type) female numbered “527”. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Platychyra , which is an “unjustified emendation of Platychira Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 147).
