ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 160 (key), 162 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn / aristata Rnd. / 601.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Phonomyia aristata ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 190, Pape et al. 1995: 19, O’Hara et al. 2009: 75, 2020: 344, Cerretti 2010: 189).

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 162) described Phorocera aristata from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Masculum tantum inveni [I found the male only]”. O’Hara et al. (2009: 75) reported the holotype in the MZUF.
