Tachina noctuarum Rondani, 1865

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865c: 212 (key), 213 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 13): Tachina Mgn / noctuarum Rnd ., ♂ / 679; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 13): Tachina Mgn / noctuarum Rnd ., ♀, Trident. [Tridentum (= Trento, Italy)] / 680 .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Exorista (Exorista) larvarum (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 122) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 213) described Tachina noctuarum without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths. Herting (1969: 197) incorrectly reported just two males in the MZUF. We found three syntypes in this study: two males and one female. The males and the female have different identification numbers.
