ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 23.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Nov. Hol. [New Holland (= Australia)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUN: Box Daxidei D 01, 01): Rutilia spinolae Rnd., N. Olanda / M. Zool. N° 11367 / ♂ .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Cantrell & Crosskey 1989: 746, O’Hara et al. 2020: 111).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 23) described Rutilia spinolae , without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens but providing specific characters for the male sex, from material received from M. Spinola. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “681”. We also found one syntype in this study.
