TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensis … in Etruriam captum … et alterum melitensis … accepi [ Parmese territory … (a male) collected in Etruria (= Tuscany) ( Italy) … and another one on Malta Island]” .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Meigenia majuscula ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 146, Pape et al. 1995: 17, O’Hara et al. 2009: 52, 2020: 251).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 112) described both sexes of Spylosia majuscula , without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material he had collected and also received from F.M. Pecchioli and A. Schembri. We found 12 syntypes in this study.
