ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871b: 9 (key), 17 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio [Piedmont ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MRSN): 17 58 / 96 / Tephritis rufina Ron. 96 .
CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Foote 1984: 133, Norrbom et al. 1999: 219).
REMARKS: Rondani (1871b: 17) described Tephritis rufina from a single female: “ Foeminam unicam observavi … captam a Professore Bellardi [I observed a single female collected by Prof. Bellardi]”.
