ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871c: 164 (key), 165 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio [Piedmont ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (missing right wing and left fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 33): Actinoptera Rnd. / helichrysi Rnd., Pedem. [= Piedmont] / 1728; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN): 94 / Actinoptera helichrysi Ronda. [= Rondani] 76.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Actinoptera filaginis (Loew, 1862) ( Foote 1984: 71, Norrbom et al. 1999: 73).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871c: 165) described Ditricha helichrysi without specifying the exact number , the sex or the length of the specimens but providing specific characters for the male and female, from material received from L. Bellardi. We found two syntypes in this study. This nominal species was described under the generic name Ditricha (subgenus Actinoptera ), which is an “unjustified emendation of Dithryca Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 74).
