TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino [Apennines ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (missing right hind-leg) ( MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic!] Mgn / manicata Rndn. , ♀ / 92 / lectotype ♀, Spilomyia manicata (Rondani, 1865) , design. J. van Steenis, 1998 .
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (covered with mold, missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic!] Mgn / manicata Rndn. , ♀ / 92 / Spilomyia diophthalma (Linnaeus, 1758) det. J. van Steenis, 1998.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Spilomyia manicata View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 213, Belcari et al. 1995a: 18, Steenis 2000: 157).
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 132) described Milesia manicata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Steenis (2000: 157) designated a lectotype (♀) but did not mention the additional MZUF female numbered “92” as a paralectotype (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
