ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 456.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421) .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (abdomen in poor condition) ( MSNG): Sarawak / typus / pauper Rond. / Tabanus pauper n° 66.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Stone 1975: 66).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 456) described Tabanus pauper from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Ricardo (1911: 208) reported having examined the type (♀) in the MSNG. Guiglia (1957: 197) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 55) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
