Chrysops unizonatus Rondani, 1875 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 459.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island, Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421).
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MSNG): Sarawak / Typus / unizonatus Rond. / Chrysops unizonatus , n° 73.
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 71): Chrysops unizonatus n. / Sarawak / [no identification number].
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Chrysops fixissimus Walker, 1856 (Stone 1977: 45) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 459) described Chrysops unizonatus from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) reported a “ holotype ” in the MSNG without knowing of an additional female in the MZUF, which brings the original syntype series to two specimens. In his original description Rondani did not explicitly refer to a single specimen therefore Guiglia’s “ holotype ” specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). Raineri & Rey (1996: 55) also reported a single specimen in the MSNG. The additional female in the MZUF not examined by Guiglia is a paralectotype.
