[ Cheilosia testacicornis View in CoL ] Rondani, 1857: 150 (key), 154 (description).

REMARKS: misidentification. Rondani (1857: 154) used Cheilosia testacicornis (name unavailable) for a new Cheilosia species , described from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Raro foeminam invenit Mussino in Liguria [Mussino rarely found the female in Liguria ( Italy)]”. Cheilosia testacicornis has been considered as a valid species by Bezzi & Stein (1907: 26), Peck (1988: 188) and Belcari et al. (1995a: 13) and as a junior synonym of Cheilosia aerea Dufour, 1848 by Claussen & Thompson (1996: 276). Cheilosia testacicornis is here considered a misidentification and is therefore an unavailable name. Claussen & Thompson (1996: 276) reported no specimen under the name Cheilosia testacicornis in the MZUF. We could not locate any specimens with this name during this study. The subsequent spelling “ testaceicornis ” has been used ( Peck 1988: 118, Belcari et al. 1995a: 13, O’Hara et al. 2011: 215) but it is not in prevailing usage ( Bezzi & Stein 1907: 26, Claussen & Thompson 1996: 276).
