Agelanius philippii Rondani, 1863 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 80 (description, as “ philippi ”), 93 (index, as “ philippii ”).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ St. Jago [Santiago ( Chile)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (completely covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Tabanidei - Gen. Pangonia a Corizoneura ): Agelanius philippii Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 10934 / Syn. Dasybasis acutidens (Phil.) , ♂, C.B. Philip 1957.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Dasybasis philippii ( Fairchild 1971: 43) View in CoL ; valid species ( Coscarón & Papavero 2009: 59).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 80) described Agelanius philippii from just the male sex without specifying the exact number of specimens and giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 38) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “893”. We also found one syntype in this study. Philip (1965a: 121) and Coscarón & Philip (1967: 215) reported a single type (♂) in the MZUN. Rondani (1863) described the species under the name “ philippi ” in his description (p. 80) and as “ philippii ” in his index (p. 93). Acting as First Revisers (according to I.C.Z.N. 1999:Article 24.2.3), we consider “ philippi ” as an incorrect spelling of “ philippii ”.
