ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 16.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Tachinidei - Gen. Dejeania a Belvosia ): Cyphocera [sic!] pruinosa Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 11330.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Deopalpus pruinosus ( Guimarães 1971: 77; O’Hara et al. 2020: 826).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 16) described Ciphocera pruinosa from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 32) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “667”. We also found one female syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Ciphocera ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Cuphocera Macquart, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 68).
