ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 14 (key), 15 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis … a Pedemontio [Parmese plains and hills … from Piedmont ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one partially eaten by dermestids, missing head and left mid-leg, the other missing left mid-leg), 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg, the other covered with mold, puparium pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 14): Blepharipa Rnd. / pupiphaga Rnd. , ♂ / 737; 1 ♂, 1 ♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box D): Blepharipa pupiphaga R., 279, ♂ ♀, Parma / 393 279; 1 ♂, syntype (head fragments glued to a separate cardboard stage, thorax and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Blepharipa pupiphaga R. 100 ♂ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 2, posiz. A-3 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sturmia bella ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 248) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 15) described both sexes of Blepharipa pupiphaga from an unspecified number of specimens he had collected and also received from L. Bellardi, and then redescribed it under the generic name Masicera ( Rondani 1862a: 45) . We found seven syntypes in this study. Not included in the type series are an additional two MRSN males from Piedmont because just the female sex comes from this locality: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis … Foeminam quoque a Pedemontio misit Prof. Bellardi [Parmese plains and hills … Prof. Bellardi also sent the female from Piedmont]”.
