ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 121 (key), 142 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in ditionis parmensis planitie [ Parmese plains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold, missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / crinita Rnd. / 645.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Ptesiomyia alacris ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 188) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 142) described Exorista crinita from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Semel captus mas [the male collected once]”. We found one male syntype in this study. The MZUF also contains a female (non-type) numbered “645”.
