ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861b: 214 (key), 218 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensis collibus [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 17): Elomyia [sic!] Desv. / umbripennis Rnd. / 935; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box C): Elomyia [sic!] umbripennis R., 338, ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 393 338; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Elomya Desv. umbripennis R. 159 ♂ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 2, posiz. F-4 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Elomya lateralis ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 408) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861b: 218) described Elomya umbripennis from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Foeminas non cognovi, forte ab aliis specierum affinium non distinguendas [I did not know females, perhaps indistinguishable from similar species]”. We found four syntypes in this study.
