ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865c: 217 (key), 218 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus Insubriae [Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MZUF: Box 14): Macronychia Rnd. / alpestris Rnd. / 732 / holotype ♂ Macronychia alpestris Rnd. , ♂, T. Pape det., 1986.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Macronychia Rondani, 1859 ( Verves 1986: 60) View in CoL ; valid species ( Pape 1988: 5, 1996: 94, Pape et al. 1995: 11, Povolný & Verves 1997: 56, Verves & Khrokalo 2006: 232).

REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 218) described Macronychia alpestris from just the male sex without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Pape (1988: 5) considered the specimen in the MZUF as the holotype.
