TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis In Pedemontio [Parmese plains and hills … Piedmont ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 29): 1512 / Tetanocera Dmrl / punctifrons Rnd. , ♂, Parma / Type / T. punctifrons Rond., J. Verbeke det., 1963.

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (abdomen, terminalia and one antenna on two slides) ( MZUF: Box 29): Tetanocera Dmrl / punctifrons Rnd ., ♂, Parma / 1512; 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 29): Tetanocera Dmrl / punctifrons Rndn ., ♀, Parma / 1512.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 4 ♂♂ (MRSN): Tetanocera Dmrl / punctifrons Rndn. / Buttigl. [= Buttigliera, Turin]; 4 ♀♀ (MRSN): Tetanocera Dmrl / punctifrons Rndn. / Novalesa [Turin].

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Rozkošný & Elberg 1984: 191, Rivosecchi 1992a: 235, Munari & Rivosecchi 1995: 5).

REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 222) described both sexes of Tetanocera punctifrons without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ mares tres et foeminam unicam inveni… In pedemontio eam invenit prof. Bellardi [I found three males and one female … Prof. Bellardi found it in Pedemontio ]”. Verbeke (1964a: 10) unambiguously identified the “type” (the male specimen labeled as such), “ allotype ” (female) and “cotype” (male), which therefore must be considered, respectively, as the lectotype and paralectotypes (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5), but did not mention an additional eight specimens in the MRSN (all are paralectotypes).
