ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 101.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1867b: 103) added “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂ (slightly mouldy), 2 ♀♀ (one missing left fore-leg, the other missing right mid-leg and abdomen), syntypes ( MZUF: Box 27): Achantolena Rndn. / maculipennis Rndn. , Parma / 1423 .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Norellia spinipes ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Gorodkov 1986: 12, Šifner 2003: 31).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 101) key for the genus Achantholena Rondani, 1856 lists Achantholena maculipennis as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. We found four syntypes in this study.
