Scathophagidae View in CoL View at ENA
This family contains 417 predominantly Holarctic species ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1856, 1863, 1866b) described nine Palaearctic and one Nearctic nominal species: of these ten, eight appear in his paper on Italian “ Stirps Scatophaginae ” (1866b). Four species are considered as valid, four as junior synonyms and two as doubtful ( Aldrich 1905, Gorodkov 1986, Gorodkov et al., 1995, Šifner 2003, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Except for the type material of Scatina estotilandica —which is presumed lost—and additional syntypes in the MZUB (one) and in the OUMNH (one), the type material has been recovered for all nominal species and is in the MZUF.
