ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 224 (key), 229 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ a Florentia [Florence ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MZUF: Box 14): Sphixapata Rndn. / picciolii Rnd. / 724 / holotype ♀ Sphixapata picciolii Rndn., T. Pape det., 1986.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Oebalia cylindrica (Fallén, 1810) View in CoL ( Verves 1986: 99, Pape 1988: 13, 1996: 120, Povolný & Verves 1997: 89).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 229) described Sphixapata picciolii from a single female: “ Foeminam unicam observavi, quam … misit Doct. Piccioli [I observed a single female, sent by Dr. Piccioli]”. Pape (1988: 13) reported the holotype in the MZUF.
