ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 52.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later ( Rondani 1857: 165) added “ in apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes (dirty, one missing left wing) ( MZUF: Box 6): Campeneura Rnd. venusta Rnd. / 289; 1 ♂, syntype (very moldy) ( OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box 37): syntype / Type / C. venusta Ex. Coll. Bigot / C. venusta ♂ Parma, Rond.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Orthonevra frontalis (Loew, 1843) View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 140, Belcari et al. 1995a: 14).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 52) key for the genus Campeneura Rondani, 1856 lists Campeneura venusta as its type species, and provides specific characters for the male and female but no detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. He later ( Rondani 1857: 165) supplied a detailed description of the species and gave the Parmese Apennines as the type locality. We found three syntypes in this study. An additional specimen (Box B) from “Insub.” [= Insubria (= Lombardy)] is not included in the MZUF type series because it is not from the type locality.
