ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 152 (key), 160 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in parmensi apennino [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (thorax partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 6): Cheilosia Mgn / laticornis Rndn., Apen. [= Apennines] / 284 / Holotypus Cheilosia laticornis Rond. , det. Claussen 1988.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Cheilosia latifacies Loew, 1857 View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 107, Belcari et al. 1995a: 13); valid species ( Claussen & Thompson 1996: 279).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 160) described Cheilosia laticornis from a single female: “ Pro unico exemplari foemineo, … capto a D. Bertèo, speciem instituo [from a single female specimen, collected by Mr. Bertè, I described the species”. Claussen & Thompson (1996: 279) reported the holotype (♀) in the MZUF.
