TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino et in Alpibus Insubriae [Apennines and Insubrian (= Lombardy Italy) Alps]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (missing right hind-leg) ( MZUF: Box 6): Cheilosia Mgn / fuscicornis Rnd. , ♂, Alpi / 267 / det. examined F.C. Thompson 1978 / Cheilosia barbata Loew, M , det. Claussen 1988 / Lectotypus Cheilosia fuscicornis Rond. , det Claussen, 1989.

PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ ( MZUF: Box 6): Cheilosia Mgn / fuscicornis Rnd. , ♂ , Alpi / 267 / Cheilosia barbata Loew , ♂, det. Claussen 1988 / Syntypus Cheilosia fuscicornis Rond. , det Claussen, 1989 / Paralectotypus Cheilosia fuscicornis Rond. , ♂, etik. Claussen & Thomson 1996.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Cheilosia proxima (Zetterstedt, 1843) View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 114, Belcari et al. 1995a: 13); junior synonym of Cheilosia barbata Loew, 1857 View in CoL ( Claussen & Thompson 1996: 277).

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 137) described Cheilosia fuscicornis from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Claussen & Thompson (1996: 278) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♂).
