ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 88.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (dirty, covered with mold, missing antennae) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Stratiomidei - Gen. Hermethia a Beris ): Chorisops philippii Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 10955.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Neoexaireta philippii ( James 1973: 7) ; valid species, as Macromeracis philippii ( Woodley 2001: 41) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 88) described Chorisops philippii , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 39) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “927”. We also found one syntype in this study.
