TYPE LOCALITY: “ in apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 2): Merodon Fb. Latr. / aerarius Rndn., Apenn. [= Apennines] / 56 / Merodon aeneus Fabr. , det. Hurkmans, 1987; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 99): Merodon aerarius Rnd. , 364, Apenn. [= Apennines].
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Merodon aeneus Meigen, 1822 View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 166, Belcari et al. 1995a: 16); junior synonym of M. aureus ( Fabricius, 1805) ( Milankov et al. 2008: 1125) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 60) described Merodon aerarius from just the male sex without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Mares tantum lecti [I collected only males]”. We found two syntypes in this study.
