TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensis [Parmese territory ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MNHUB): Italien Parma Rondani / Coll. Loew Typus / Lasiophticus [sic!] Rnd. / dignotus Rond., Parm. / Lectotypus Dus. & Láska.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Scaeva dignota View in CoL ( Dušek & Láska 1985: 215, Peck 1988: 40, Belcari et al. 1995a: 8).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 141) described Lasiophthicus dignotus from just a few males: “ Pro maribus tantum paucis, … species instructa, … foeminam mihi ignota [species instituted only on a few males, … the female unknown to me]”. Dušek & Láska (1985: 215) designated a lectotype (♂, MNHUB) and paralectotype (1 ♂, MZUF) but did not mention either the male in the MZUF or the male in the MZUB (both of these additional specimens are paralectotypes). Their designation of a female paralectotype is incorrect because it is the wrong sex. Not included in the type series are eight females because of their sex: five in the MZUF, two in the MZUB and one in the MSNC. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Lasiophthicus , which is an “unjustified emendation of Lasiopthicus Rondani, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 102).
