ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 87 (key), 94 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus sub-apenninis parmensibus … in Etruria [Parmese sub-Apennine hills … Etruria (= Tuscany) ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / lejops Rnd. , ♂ / 138 / Eumerus amoenus Loew (= lejops Rnd. ), det. M. Daccordi, 1994; 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / lejops Rnd. , ♂ / 138.
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Eumerus Meigen, 1822 ( Peck 1988: 165) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Eumerus amoenus Loew, 1848 View in CoL ( Belcari et al. 1995a: 14).
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 94) described Eumerus lejops from just the male sex: “ Marem ter legi …, et alterum … D. Piccioli misit [I collected the male three times …, and Mr. Piccioli sent another one to me]”. We found four syntypes in this study.A female numbered “138” in the MZUF (Box 4) is not included in the type series because of its sex .
