ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 49 (key), 50 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus subapenninis dictionis parmensis et … in planitiae [ Parmese sub-Apennine hills and … plains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 3): Helophilus Mgn / solitarius Rnd. / 81.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Helophilus pendulus (Harris, 1776) View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 197, Belcari et al. 1995a: 18); junior synonym of Helophilus trivittatus ( Fabricius, 1805) ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 50) described Helophilus solitarius from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ semel foemina inventa in collibus subapenninis dictionis parmensis et semel in planitiae [found the female once on Parmese sub-Apennine hills and once on the plains]”. We found one syntype in this study.
