Eumerus uncipes Rondani, 1850 View in CoL View at ENA
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850a: 119 (key, as “ ancipes ”), 123 (description, as “ uncipes View in CoL ”).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmense tam in planitie quam in collibus [ Parmese plains and hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one with left hind-leg glued to a cardboard stage pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / uncipes Rdn. , ♂ / 132; 5 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing head; one with abdomen partially eaten by dermestids; one covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / uncipes Rdn. , ♀ / 132; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN): Parma / Eumerus uncipes Rond. / Museo di Zoologia della Università di Torino; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUB: Box 320): 20 25 / Eumerus uncipes Rond. , ex a. parmensi / uncipes Rndn. , ♂, Parma.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 164, Belcari et al. 1995a: 16).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850a: 123) described both sexes of Eumerus uncipes without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he wrote: “ non infrequens [not rare]”. We found nine syntypes in this study. Rondani spelled the species as “ ancipes ” (p. 119) in his key, but as “ uncipes ” in his description (p. 123). Acting as First Reviser (according to I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 24.2.4), Rondani (1857: 85, 91) determined the correct spelling as “ uncipes ”.
