Eumerus cavitibius Rondani, 1850 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850a: 120 (key), 126 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in colle sub-apennino ditionis parmensis [ Parmese sub-Apennine hill ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / emarginatus Lw. cavitibius Rnd. / 143.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Eumerus emarginatus Loew, 1848 View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 156, Belcari et al. 1995a: 14).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850a: 126) described Eumerus cavitibius from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Mas semel captus [The male once collected]”. We found one syntype in this study. The subsequent spelling “ clavitibius ” has been used ( Rondani 1857: 87, Verrall 1901: 106, Séguy 1961: 209) but it is not in prevailing usage ( Kertész 1910: 314, Bezzi & Stein 1907: 134, Sack 1932: 400, Peck 1988: 156, O’Hara et al. 2011: 207). Therefore, the original spelling “ cavitibius ” is to be used and “ clavitibius ” is an incorrect subsequent spelling.
