CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Chrysotoxum octomaculatum Curtis, 1837 View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 61, Belcari et al. 1995a: 9).
REMARKS: Rondani (1845e: 199) described both sexes of Chrysotoxum chrysopolita without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. We found ten syntypes in this study. An additional MZUF female numbered “356” from “Varal. [= Varallo (= Vercelli, Italy)]” is not included in the type series because it is not from the type locality.
