Caenosia patelligera Rondani, 1866 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 197 (key), 205 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus et apennino agri parmensis [ Parmese hills and Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left fore- and both hind-legs; two dirty, covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 24): Caenosia Mgn / patelligera Rnd. , Parma / 1294.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Coenosia patelligera View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 209, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 16, Couri & Pont 2020: 32).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 205) described Caenosia patelligera from a few males, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length “ Mares tantum non frequenter inveni [Not frequently I found only males]”. We found three male syntypes in this study. A MZUF female numbered “1294” is not included in the type series because of its sex. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Caenosia ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 43).
