Spilogaster venosa Rondani, 1877 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1877c: 72 (key, as S. venosa ), 98 (description, as S. venosus ).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennini parmensis colle [ Parmese Apennine hill ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (abdomen on a separate pin, head partially eaten by dermestids, missing left fore- and right hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 25): Spilogaster Mcqrt / limbovenosa Rnd. , Parma / 1312.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Helina evecta (Harris, 1780) ( Pont 1986b: 141, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 13).
REMARKS: Rondani (1877c: 98) described Spilogaster venosa from just the male sex giving a single measurement of length: “ Faem. non observata. Marem tantum legi [Female not observed. I collected the male only]”. Hennig (1961: 228) reported no type specimen of Spilogaster venosa in either the MZUF or MRSN and proposed that the specimen labeled Spilogaster limbovenosa (manuscript name) numbered “1312” in the MZUF belong to the type series of Spilogaster venosa , given that Rondani never described a species named “ limbovenosa ”. We found this latter specimen, which we consider as a syntype.
