ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 112 (key), 121 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (missing right fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 25): Spilogaster Mcqrt / ustipennis Rnd. , ♀, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 1326 .
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Helina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ( Pont 1986b: 153, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 14).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 121) described Spilogaster ustipennis from just the female sex giving a single measurement of length: “ Foeminam tantum inveni [I found the female only]”. In his redescription, Rondani (1887c: 74) specified having a single female: “ Pulchrae speciei exemplar unicum foemineum legi [I collected a single female specimen of this nice species]”.
