ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 92 (key), 97 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ ab Etruria … ab Insula Melita [ Etruria (= Tuscany, Italy) … Malta Island]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left fore-leg, dirty, the other missing left mid-leg), 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one covered with mold, the other partially eaten by dermestids and covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 22): Yetodesia Rnd. / meridionalis Rnd. / 1169; 1 ♂, syntype (missing both fore-legs and left mid-leg) ( OUMNH General Collection: Box 153.4): syntype / Typ. Rd. merid. / sec. typ. Rondanii / Y. meridionalis Ex. Coll. Kow. / Phaonia trimaculata Bouché, A.C. Pont det. 2005.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Phaonia trimaculata (Bouché, 1834) View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 132, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 13).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 97) described both sexes of Yetodesia meridionalis without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Exemplaria utriusque sexus … misit doct. Piccioli, et specimen, masculum dom. Schembri [Doct. Piccioli sent specimens of both sexes … and Schembri sent a male specimen]”. We found five syntypes in this study.
