TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insulae S. Sebastiani [ San Sebastian Island ( Brazil)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Pyrellia Desv ochrifacies Rndn., Ins. S. Sebastiani / Pyrellia ochrifacies Rond. 1850: 177 , Ins . S Seb.; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUN: Box Muscidae M02, 15): Pyrellia ochrifacies Rnd., Am. mer. [= South America] / M. Zool. N° 11405.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pyrellia flavicornis Macquart, 1848 ( Pont 1972: 8) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Morellia violacea ( Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830) ( Carvalho et al. 2005: 20) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 177) described Pyrellia ochrifacies from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, from material received from E. Truqui. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “707”. The word “ mas ” [= male] at the beginning of the description is in error. We found two female syntypes in this study.
