TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus et planitie agri parmensis [ Parmese plains and hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left mid-leg, the other partially eaten by dermestids and missing left fore-leg), 5 ♀♀, syntypes (one partially eaten by dermestids; one covered with mold; one missing left mid-leg; one missing right fore- and left hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 24): Spilogaster Mcqrt / flagripes Rnd. , Parma / 1302; 1 ♂, 1 ♀, syntypes (missing right fore- and both mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box F): Spilogaster flagripes R., 442, ♂ ♀, Parma / 393 442; 1 ♂, syntype (missing head; right wing glued to a cardboard stage pinned below specimen) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Spylogaster flagripes Rnd. 475 ♂ ♀ Parma / Coll. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Helina tetrastigma ( Meigen, 1826) ( Pont 1986b: 151, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 14).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 114) described both sexes of Spilogaster flagripes without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he stated: “ non infrequens [not rare]”. We found 15 syntypes in this study.
