ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 331.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ In montuosis agri parmensis [ Parmese mountains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 24): Oplogaster Rndn. / obscuricula Rnd. , ♂, Parma / 1277.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Coenosia obscuricula View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 208, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 16).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 331) described Hoplogaster obscuricula from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We found one syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Hoplogaster , which is an “unjustified emendation of Oplogaster Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 98).
