ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 213 (key), 215 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis et … in Apennino … In Etruria quoque mas lectus … et in Brixiano agro [ Parmese plains and hills … Apennines … Etruria (= Tuscany) … Brescian territory ( Italy)]” .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Morellia hortorum ( Fallén, 1817) ( Pont 1986b: 95, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 11).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 215) described Cyrtoneura pilipes from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Foeminas non vidi . … Mares aliquos legi … quoque mas lectus a Doct. Piccioli et … a Tacchetti [I did not see any females … I collected some males … The male collected also by Doct. Piccioli and … Tacchetti]”. We found 11 syntypes in this study. Two MZUF females numbered “1133” and one OUMNH female are not included in the type series because of their sex. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Cyrtoneura , which is an “unjustified emendation of Curtonevra Macquart, 1834 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 68).
