ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869a: 32 (key), 33 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Sardinia [Sardinia ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Platystoma insularum View in CoL ( Soós 1984b: 41, Belcari et al. 1995b: 7).
REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 33) described Megaglossa insularum from a single male: “ Marem unicum observavi Collect. Bellardi [I observed a single male in Bellardi’s collection]”. Rivosecchi (2000: 170) reported not finding any specimen of Megaglossa insularum in the MZUF. We also did not find any material during this study.
